Hives and Handling equipment

Bees don't need a palace to live in even though they have a queen.  They do need a decent box that will take a lot of knocks an bumps, hot weather, cold weather, sunny days and windy days.  Our hives (10 frame and 8 frame Full Depth or WSP depth and the 12 frame WSP depth Hyatt Hive) are made from Australian Hoop Pine and joined with dovetails because that keeps them stronger and they last longer.  The Hyatt Hive is made with sliding internal dovetails.  We suggest gluing with Gorilla Glue or Titebond 3.  Wax dipping is an extra step that will make your boxes last longer.  Check out the Knowledge base for how to do that (link).  Paint the outside only. A primer coat followed with two coats of Tiffany Blue (PMS 1837).  If you want to keep the timber tones, a couple of coats of Whittles Bangkirai Oil is the go.
